When your computer speed starts to steadily decline, and you find yourself pulling out your hair, most think they need to head to the shop to buy a shiny new machine. In most cases, you don’t need to.
From start-up to browsing your family photos or searching the web to keep on top of the latest news, here are 3 top tips on how to speed up your machines performance. Follow them all correctly and you’ll have your computer running like new again in no time.
1. Speed Up Your Startup!
If you find yourself eating your breakfast and your computer has still not started up by the time you’ve finished that last mouthful, then it’s time to make some changes. It’s Most likely not your computer starting up slow, it’s all the programs launching due in the startup process that are slowing it down.
Use Windows or Mac’s built in tool to manage what programs launch on startup, you mostly likely don’t need them all running.
To find it on windows, go to Search or Run under Start and type “msconfig.” Under the “Startup” tab, uncheck the boxes of the programs you don’t need to run every time your computer is turned on, for instance, skype or your printer. If you don’t recognize a program, leave it be. Restart your computer and watch it be one step closer to new.
The easiest way to remove Startup items in mac is to navigate to System Preferences > Users & Groups. Once there, click your username, and click on the login items teb. There you can check / uncheck items. Here, you can see all of the items that you’ve selected to launch at startup. To remove an item, select it in the list, and then click on the minus (-) button.
2. Clearing browser history
There is a couple of quick changes that can be made if browsing the web is your main problem, this isn’t going to speed up your entire PC but it will improve your browser experience in the short term.
Are you an Internet Explorer user? Get rid of it! Google Chrome is the best browser on the web now, well known for its speedy browsing.
Under Chrome you can go to ‘Settings > Clear Browsing Data > Tick all of the options > Clear Browsing Data’ this will remove all of that dead weight you have slowing you down on searching the net.
I bet it’s been some time since you cleared files off your device?
